Dawsonville 02/28/2026 Launch Report

Launch report for the Dawsonville, Ga. launch 02/28/2026

Hmmm, ok…launch report.

In the “Why be normal – when you can do something to excess” category we find Jorge Blanco launching an OLD Semroc Hydra with seven A8-3 motors. While Jorge wasn’t the only clustered rocket, his was the most extreme. Good flight, treebound recovery.

Talking about clusters, Darren launched his “Missile Truck” which was a scratch-built F-15 fighter with A-to-A missiles and a pair of B6-4 motors. Great flight (see Kevin’s pictures).

Tom Thurmond launched a Boosted Burtha for a classic flight and recovery.

Ray Lecture flew a beautifully finished BOMARC for another great flight and recovery.

Chris takes the award for most daring flight with his “Super Protostar”. Chris put a central D12-5 motor into his Protostar but added three A8-3 motors on the pods. Chris actually soldered the ignitors to assure successful ignition….and was rewarded with a great flight and recovery. Kids…don’t do this at home!

On the “Why the heck didn’t that work” front comes Bob Taylor with his E12-0 Mono-copter. Everything held together but the mono-copter refused to leave Bob’s pad. Bob thinks he has a solution…maybe we’ll see this again at the 03/14/26 launch?

A flight that inspired everyone was Gary Knotts “Super Orbital Transport”. We were all treated to an excellent flight and recovery of both the booster and glider.

Talking about gliders, Darren flew his “Black Pajaro” (SR71 – Black Bird) for an awe-inspiring flight and recovery.

Honorable mention goes to the two ARC teams that came out and gave it their best. Why Andre Zverlov called his ARC rocket, “Better than Blanco’s Rocket” I’ll never know.

Back to Darren…multiple flights of his printed X-Wing fighters thrilled us with the Up Part…the recoveries were a challenge.

Thomas came out with “Project Ham” which is a 4” Redstone with a Mercury capsule on top. Ham would have been prowd.
