Mill Springs Academy 6/14/2025 Launch Report

Photo Album of the launch by Kevin Boyd

Typical summertime weather was present at the June 14th launch event at Mill Springs Academy.  SoAR members set up additional launch pads for the anticipated multiple Cub Scout Packs that would have many families coming out for their first rocket launch experience.  Terry Bliss set up an inspection and repair table to help facilitate the readiness of rockets that their owners were very eager to fly.  The table was quickly swamped, but good results brought many smiles to young faces as issues were resolved quickly.  By the end of the event there were 172 launches accomplished.

With sunny skies and favorable light winds tempting more complex designs and some higher altitudes, there were some great flights put in by SoAR members.  Kevin Scholberg really wowed the crowd with his scratch-built S.I.B.H.O.D. powered by a cluster of two D12s and two C11s for a straight up flight and successful recovery.  James Gibson launched an Estes Out of this World two stage rocket with a B6-0/C6-7 combination.  Terry Bliss got to fly his Hobby Lobby modified 10” Airscrew x2 (two stage) with a B6-0/B6-2 stack.

Additional flights of interest included Darren’s Quest Lexx Jet launched with a D12, Kevin Boyd’s scratch-built Lunch Room Lady (yes, there is a bit of a story) powered by an E12 motor, Warren Cooper’s Big Boy launched with an E26, and an Estes Mars Snooper was flown by Rishi on a D12 and successfully recovered.
